There's always something happening...

Aug 21, 2026

I've noticed a strange thing in sales

That it can feel very productive without actually being very effective

Particularly in engineering environments

There's always something happening

Emails. Quotes. Meetings. Updates

Everything feels important. Everything feels urgent

And before long the day is deciding itself

The challenge is that reactive activity often creates reactive conversations

We're responding

Updating. Quoting. Fixing. Moving

But not always influencing

What I've noticed in stronger commercial environments is something slightly different

People seem more deliberate

Not slower. Just more intentional

They think carefully about:

- Which opportunities matter
- Where their time is best invested
- How they prepare
- What they're trying to achieve
- What creates value over the longer term

Structure helps. Like the VALUE Framework

🔸 Validate = right opportunities

Focus attention where there is genuine potential to create value

🔸 Align = right research

Prepare with purpose rather than simply reacting to requests

🔸 Leverage = right conversations

Invest time in discussions that shape decisions, not just support them

🔸 Underpin = right solutions

Connect activity to outcomes rather than tasks

🔸 Evolve = right outcomes

Keep asking whether the effort is moving things forward

The interesting thing is that the strongest salespeople are not always the busiest... they're often the most intentional.

And perhaps that's the difference between being active and actually making progress

How do you ensure you are making progress and not just being busy?

Are you ready to increase your sales?
