Get out

"Never get out of the boat"
A line from one of my favourite films (Apocalypse Now)
Not such good advice though
If the boat is travelling in the wrong direction getting out is the right thing to do
As salespeople we can get stuck in the boat
Doing the same old things that are increasingly less effective
Yet we carry on... because, well, never get out of the boat
Customers are changing
They are demanding something different
That's why I wrote Ethical Selling
Do you need to get out of the boat?
Consider the opposite of the ETHICAL Model
If you are thinking/acting like this if may be worth bailing out
🔻 Unempathetic Communication
Ignoring customer needs, using one-sided messaging and scripted interactions without genuine listening
🔻 Non-Transparent Practices
Withholding key information, using misleading or deceptive tactics to influence decisions
🔻 Ego-Centric Focus
Prioritizing company profits or personal gain over delivering value or solving customer problems
🔻 Twisted Information Delivery
Providing skewed, incomplete, or overly complex data to confuse or manipulate decision-making
🔻 Hostile or Transactional Interactions
Viewing customers as numbers, not people and focusing on short-term gains rather than relationship-building.
🔻 Inflexible, Self-Serving Negotiation
Applying pressure tactics and rigid demands that favor only one side, often the business’s own interests
🔻 Complacency and Stagnation
Resisting change, avoiding feedback, and failing to invest in growth, improvement or innovation
If your role is forcing you down this route... get out of the boat!
(If you need to jump ship or change tack get in touch and I'll send you some stuff that makes it's easier to assess your approach)
